Marketing Secrets – Create Effective Marketing Materials with a 2 Phase Marketing Plan

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Effective marketing materials move the buying process forward. By understanding the customer’s buying process, we can increase sales
With marketing dollars as tight as they are, our customers frequently ask how they can maximize the return on their marketing investmenthow they can generate marketing pieces that are efficient and, most of all, effective. One of the most basic yet most underused strategies is to plan marketing efforts to match the different steps in the customers typical buying process. We refer to this as the two-phase marketing approach.

The Buying Process Whether or not they are aware of it, customers follow a repeatable process when they decide to buy. We break down the steps as follows:

-Goal Setting
-Problem Recognition
-Information Search
-Evaluation of Alternatives
-Decision
-Post Purchase Evaluation
-Repeat Purchase

Not every step in the process is followed for each sale; new or complex purchases tend to follow this path most directly. And you may even want to encourage the compression of the process by helping customers skip steps. Yet however the process proceeds, it cant begin without the first step: problem recognition. If the customer has not recognized a need, there is no chance of a sale. Surprisingly, even experienced marketers often overlook this simple and intuitive concept. They focus marketing efforts on showing customers how good their product is. They demonstrate all the bells and whistles. Or, they concentrate on building a winning brand image. But they neglect to focus on the needwhat the product will do for the customer. No matter how good your product is, no matter how technically advanced the product is, and no matter how cool your image is, customers will not buy if they dont see the need.

And, we cant assume that the need is obvious to our customers. Often, the need is latent. Latent needs tend to run constant and, as a result, may not to register immediately with customers. These include issues like reducing costs, increasing sales, increasing efficiency, speeding product development, or reducing exposure to regulatory or legal risk. All customers, theoretically, are interested in addressing these issues. But they may not know of new technologies that can help them, or of potential risks that change these needs from nice-to-haves to must-haves.

In the first phase of two-phase marketing, the goal is to help potential customers recognize their need. The second phase then fills it by providing further information to set customers comfortably into the buying process.

Phase 1: Making a Latent Need a Recognized One

To make customers realize their need, your message must be simple, focused, and compelling. You are not trying to sell product. Rather, you are selling an ideathat customers have a problem that needs to be solved, and you can help them solve it.. Consider the following messages:

How to be sure that you are in compliance with COBRA requirements
What CFR 29 means to your business
Cut the cost of customer service, and make your customers happierFind out how

Search Engine Marketing Secrets – Marketing Genius Spotlight – The Simpsons (Ashley & Jessica) – Make it work for you too!

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

The Jessica & Ashley Simpson team are to be highly commended for their marketing genius. Say what you want about the girls but the fact is, they’re everywhere and are successfully marketing the heck out of themselves.

The half hour shows each has are basically 30 minute commercials that rev up their respective fan bases several times per week.

These shows are a lesson in the latest subtle marketing trends.

What we mean by that is that the latest trend in marketing is to promote and market to the public without them realizing that it’s happening.

Long ago this was done (and still is) in movies & TV with things like product placement. Now, reality TV shows are doing it bigger and doing it well.

While the Ashley Simpson show and Jessica’s show, Newlyweds, star the “products” they’re marketing, shows like The Apprentice highlight their marketed products in the show’s competitions.

The Pepsi bottles, Burger King’s new burger and PS2’s new game, etc. are all products that effectively received one hour of promotion by being featured on The Apprentice.

If you’re a consumer and didn’t realize that this was happening, wake up and smell the promo.

If you have a product you want to promote, this is a fantastic way to get your product in the public eye. It features your product in the most favorable light, makes it cool and popular, while keeping it down to earth and real since it’s not an “official” commercial.

Don’t have the Apprentice / Simpsons budget but still want to get your product out there? We have some ideas for you:

1. Try the Internet. The Internet offers as much exposure as TV but in a more intimate setting since you are directly in contact with individual consumers and can receive individual feedback from each one. You can also sell them your product directly on the spot, whereas with TV you have to wait and hope they go to the store and remember your product.

We have developed a number of web based marketing vehicles for our clients that do not overtly look like advertisements.

For example, one of our clients is an association for small and home-based businesses. To promote for new members we created a blog for them and a daily tips newsletter. Their blog and daily tips provide real valuable assistance and info to small & home based businesses with no strings. Yes, the source is known and subscribers will receive invitations to join the association, but the information and help is real and it’s free.

2. Publicity. Publicity. Publicity. – This wonderful inexpensive medium doesn’t get the credit it deserves outside the professional marketing & PR communities.

Big (and soon-to-be-big) corporate honchos realize how important publicity is in selling their product. But most small & medium sized businesses don’t.

If you are not using PR to promote your product you’re leaving money on the table.

PR also gives you a chance to say more than you can in an ad. It gives you an opportunity to be frank about your proudct, to be less formal and more down to earth.

We highly recommend to all of our clients that their marketing campaigns include PR and will work with their publicists to create a campaign worthy of the media attention they will generate. If our client does not have a PR firm, we can recommend several excellent ones.

3. Connect. – Nothing sells a product like personal contact. Get in touch with your consumer. There are many ways to do this.

Hold in store demonstrations. Attend trade shows. Have a local promotion at stores or another popular local venue. Put together promotions in cooperation with local events such as concerts & benefits where you and your products are in direct contact with consumers. Sponsor events with product give-aways.

There are infinite ways you can connect with your consumer. The above ideas will hopefully get your creative juices flowing.

A professional marketing firm can always help you put together a full promotional campaign if you need more help and is a good way to go regardless since professional assistance will always save you time and therefore be cheaper in the long run.

Regardless of what you decide, we hope the above ideas will get you started and on your way to success in promoting your products with subtlety.

Search Engine Optimization – Search Engine Optimization and Submission Essentials

Wednesday, August 30th, 2006

Driving traffic to your website from Search engines is more of a general process than a single event. You first must ensure that your pages are Search Engine ready, or “Optimized” as the internet jargon goes. You should begin by first checking your keywords and double checking that you have the best balance in the body of your webpage(the part of the website that people see), and that these keywords are in your title-tag as well. The title might just be the most vital part of your site to put your targeted keywords and keyword phrases. Meta tags(which people cannot see unless they look at the source code of a page), are of relatively minimal importance now, yet shouldtry to include your keywords there anyway, even though it is not a priority. When creating your ‘Alt’ tags for your pictures, be sure that you do not place too many keywords there because the search engines appear to be getting wise to this practice. It is extremely important to have your site correctly optimized before they are submitted to the primary search engines. Some people optimize every one of their pages for a different search engine, but I think it is probably a better idea to focus on the largest Search indexes like Google and Yahoo Search which will send the bulk of your traffic anyway. Some second tier search engines such as Ask Jeeves are simply not worth the time to optimize for in my opinion. Further, never optimize your sales page because it’s main purpose is to be compelling to potential buyers. After the Title tag the most important component of your site for putting keywords is in the body. Generally, you should have around five to eight hundred words in the body of your home page. A search engine optimization method that works well is to analyze the web pages that currently have a high ranking for your main keyword. Next find the ratio of keywords are in the document and then be sure your page has a similiar ratio. Optimization is so important because Just because your website is there does not automatically mean you’re going to get any visitors. So your pages have to be ‘robot friendly’ as they say.

When designing html pages, be sparing with java scripting and particularly flash, because certain search engine have trouble reading it properly. In addition, according to one study, some internet marketers learned that having a website created with Flash decreased the response from prospects and customers by as much as 370% Whether the Search Engines recognize flash pages or not, you might decide not to use Flash regardless since many of your visitors may use slow connection and they will not necessarily be thrilled about waiting for your animated company logo to load. They may even be a tad upset about it. And then there are those who have yet to install a flash player. But If you are truly bent on using it then at try to at least provide links to other pages which have enouph text and keywords that the search engines can readily find.
You should also be somewhat wary of images when making your site map. If your site navigation employs graphic links, add text links so that search engines are able to your pages. Another thing to be wary of in your site design is frames. Generally speaking, I advise against them because of the possible negative impact appears to outweight the benefits. After you have optimized your html pages, the next step is to submit them. You can do this by going to the “Add URL” pages of each search engine you want to be added to. It is perhaps best to do this yourself as each engine has it’s own specific instructions to follow. In many cases you may submit just your homepage and the rest of the website will be spidered as it follows all the links.

Search Engine Secrets – Search Engine Ranking for Beginners

Tuesday, August 29th, 2006

Search engine optimization is best left in the mystical land of the Intenet Marketing Guru right? Good Search engine rankings are tough to achieve. Understanding search engine marketing takes years of studying and only people with true insider knowledge and secret tools rank well in Google

right?WRONG. Pure crap as a matter of fact.

Ranking well in the search engines is not difficult. In fact search engine optimization is relatively easy. What
stops most people from ranking well in search engines is misinformation. Every week there’s yet another quick fix
to ranking well in search engines and people jump from one quick fix to the next hoping for that Top 10 position in
Google and never achieving it.

There are 6 key areas of search engine optimization that you need to know about. These are the basics. Getting these
right will help you achieve the Google rankings that you’ve always wanted.

Domain Name – The jury is still out on the how relevant a keyword rich domain name is. What I mean by keyword rich domain name is say for example your site was going to be
about money making ideas then an ideal domain name could be either www.moneymakingideas.com or www.money-making-ideas.com. My own personal preference is with the hyphenated approach e.g. www.money-making-ideas.com simply because I believe that search engines can
“read” it more easily.

Content – Useful content. Not keyword stuffed, spammy pages. Write something useful for your visitors. If you
can’t write then you’ll need to learn. Content is what keeps people coming back to your site. It’s a simple equation.

Content = Traffic. Traffic = Sales.

Turn Words Into Traffic is a great resource for learning how to write content and is a resource that I use personally. Turn Words Into Traffic gives you an A-Z on article writing – from a writers perspective.

Keywords – Keywords are the words or phrases that you expect people to search for your site/service/content with.
There are two distinct factors to consider when choosing keywords for your site.

1. You need to target specific keywords. For example if you have a website about dating then you’ll probably find it
quite difficult to achieve high search engine rankings initially with that single term. However if you were to refine an area of your site to target say Gay & Lesbian
Dating that’s more specific. You could also regionalize your keywords or key phrases e.g. Gay & Lesbian dating in Toronto. This refining process is often referred to as
niche marketing.

2. You need to choose the keywords that you want people to find your site with. Put yourself in your visitors shoes –
think about what they might use to find you in the search engines. What keywords or key phrases would you type into a search engine to find your site? What keywords or key
phrases would your potential visitor use to search for you? Always, always think like a typical websurfer.

If you’re interested in seeing what people are searching for on the web and how profitable that might be for you I
would recommend that you check out Good Keywords. It’s free and does a wonderful job of helping you find good keywords.
Good keywords is reviewed on my site.

I would also suggest that you try Wordtracker. It’s a brilliant service for tracking down specific, popular
keywords. It’s a paid service but worth every penny.

Keyword density – This is how often your keyword is used on the the page itself. For example if you have 100 words of
text on a single page and you mention your keyword 5 times then you have 5% keyword density.

Opinions vary on this but anywhere from 1% -7% is considered ideal. If this doesn’t make sense to you then it’s ok. The simple rule is this: less is more. Do not alter
the text on your webpages to include your keyword over and over again because….well…. it looks stupid, won’t
instill any confidence in your prospective customer and might also get you penalized or removed from the search engines.

A tip on achieving good keyword density is to write “organically”. Imagine you’re writing the information for a friend. Keyword density “flows” from writing content in that frame of mind.

Page title – Your TITLE tag is critical to your page being ranked well. Stuffing your TITLE tag with keywords in the hope of ranking well is pointless. Your TITLE tag, once constructed properly, will see you moving up the search engine rankings quickly. Bear this simple fact in mind
when building your websites and it will serve you well.

Links – Having good links pointing to your site and good links within your site (an often overlooked aspect of search engine optimization) is pretty important as far as
search engine ranking goes. Having other sites linking to yours proves the importance of your site to the search
engines i.e. if the content on your site is so valuable that other site owners want to link to it then it must be important.

META Keyword Tag – Meta tags are dead baby. Well not quite dead but they are only used as a point of reference for search engines. It’s a shame to see websites that have
their META tags still stuffed with keywords. It’s pointless. Put your primary keywords in the Meta Keyword part of your webpage but apart from that don’t lose any
sleep or waste any energy on them.

META Description Tag – this is used by many search engines for the text it displays directly beneath your website link
and is therefore pretty important from catching a potential visitors attention. Make sure your Meta Description tag is
50 characters or more in length and that it contains the primary keywords that youwant to target. DO NOT stuff the META Description tag full of keywords.

There’s not enough space in this article to explain all of the above in the detail that I’d love to. Also I’m not a search engine expert so some of the explanation is best
left to those that I learned from (Sean Burns take a bow!)

Having learned the basics of search engine optimization and submission I have achieved Top 10 Rankings for all of my websites. It’s not hard to do this. It just takes work, a little patience and a little common sense.

Marketing Secrets – MLM Success- The 9 Million Dollar Questions of Network Marketing Leadership

Monday, August 28th, 2006

by Doug Firebaugh

Can people REALLY Succeed in Network Marketing and MLM?

Great Question!

Answer: They can, and DO, all the time.

I got in a conversation recently with someone who asked that question, and they were convinced beyond my words that MLM simply is something that people cannot do.

And they walked off still thinking that way. Sad.

But it is a really good question, and I believe needs to be addressed from a point of reality and truth, not hype and promises. It is so true that most folks don’t succeed in network marketing, and the reason why is one, that they don’t want to hear, don’t want to believe and don’t want to deal with.

But understand:

The MLM Leadership Factor.

INFERNO Secret:

Leadership is about telling folks what needs to be said, not what they want to hear. And sometimes leaders in this business can be outcasts because they stand up for the brutal truth, not some candy coated platitude that is more for tickling the ears then changing a life.

I get emails a lot about how my writings are too blount and brutal and I need to lighten up.

Get over it. The truth needs to be told in this industry, and until folks can get a grasp on it, they will never be successful nor rich. What is the answer to the question?

You may or not believe it. But you are struggling and failing in this Network Marketing business:

Because you have chosen to do so.

Period. That’s it.

Nothing more. And I can hear the “you don’t understands” now coming off my computer screen, and they echo throughout the industry. The “Excuse Brigade” is now in action again, and clinging to their excuses like a vine to a pole, like odor to garbage.

And that is all their excuses are: Garbage. Let me explain.

It takes a certain amount of work, activity, belief, energy, education and relentless pursuit to create any success of any kind in any endeavor. .All Network Marketing Leaders know this.

And luck has a way of showing up when you have chosen to engage all of the above effectively.

Let me ask you a few questions. And for once in this business, look at yourself and answer them brutally honest.

The 9 Million Dollar Questions of MLM Leadership.

1) Have you REALLY given TOTALLY all you got the last 30 days in this business when you worked it or have you chosen not to?

2) Have you had the level of activity that is REALLY needed to succeed in MLM, or have you chosen not to?

3) Have you decided that NOTHING will stop you from success, or have you chosen that you will stop you??

4) Have you intensely educated yourself on how to REALLY do this business effectively and professionally, or have you chosen not to?

5) Have you been telling yourself the truth about what you are REALLY doing daily in your business, or NOT doing, or have you chosen NOT to?

6) Have you talked to enough people today to create some serious MLM Fire in your business, or have you chosen not to?

7) Have you focused on what will create success, not comfort, and then done it, or chosen COMFORT?

8) Are you going to finally GET SERIOUS about this business and give yourself permission to succeed, or deny yourself that choice?

9) Are you going to listen to all your excuses and reasons why Network Marketing won’t work, or have you chosen not to, and you just go out and do it and prove everyone wrong?

WAKE UP GUYS!

Your choices and decisions in this business will dictate WHAT YOU PUT INTO YOUR HOURS, and the effect those hours have on your business.r

The Secret of What Your MLM Business REALLY is.

INFERNO Secret:

All your business is, and ever will be, is a summary of what you and your downline have put, or NOT PUT, into the hours you have worked your business.

Garbage in, Garbage out. NO Exceptions.

Most kid themselves into thinking they have been working, and in reality, they have not been constructing a business, but conning themselves into constricting a future.

Brutal?

I hope so. I want this article today to be like a 2X4 up against your heart and get you to see what is REALLY your choices and desires for you in this industry.

If you do, and step up and start changing those choices into decisions and then let that decision become unalterable, it’s Success or Nothing, Freedom or Nothing, then you will find the Success Track that all leaders need to be on with their folks and with their Vision.

2 Words: IT’S TIME. To get Serious about building a Serious MLM Business.

And IT STARTS TODAY. Period.

The Seriousness Factor in MLM Leadership.

INFERNO Secret:

The SERIOUSNESS of your actions in this business will ALWAYS determine the SERIOUSNESS of your paycheck.

Now THAT’S Leadership Reality! if you choose to believe that, and GET SERIOUS. Get yourself a new bank account. You are gonna need it.

blessings….

Search Engine Marketing Secrets – High-Tech Real Estate Marketing

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

A quick glance through the Sunday real estate ads reveals that most homes are sold the old fashioned way. By print ads and word of mouth. Truth be told, placing your home in the Sunday paper does little more than quench the ego of the agent listing your home. Demand more!

Traditional real estate marketing reaches about 70% of the people who want to buy your home. The other 30% are buyers who are out-of-area. They are the buyers who surf the web, looking for a home in the town their employer just relocated them to. They are the buyers who are looking for a retirement home, or a second home near their kids. If you are not placing your home in front of these buyers, you could be chopping thousands of dollars off the selling price of your home.

Lets look at eBay for an example. Most sellers tell you the key to getting the highest dollars amount for an item is to have as many potential buyers looking at the item. The final selling price is directly prortional to the number of people watching the auction. The same holds true for selling your house.

In closing, ask your real estate agent how they plan to advertise your home on the internet. Do not let them get away with placing your home in the Sunday paper, and calling it a day. Sure, your home will sell. It may even sell fast in some markets; however, the only successful real estate transaction is the one where you get the most money when selling your home. Now go get’em.

Search Engine Secrets – Do Search Engines Scare You?

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

Do Search Engines Scare You?

What do the words “Search Engine” make you think of? I get immediate mind-pictures which vary but all have similar themes. Sometimes I see one of those tiny submarines which are used to explore the deepest parts of the ocean bed. I have this picture in my mind of the tiny submarine underwater in complete darkness apart from the beam of its searchlight which is probing the gloom. Other times I see a horse-drawn carriage driving through dense fog with only its weak lamp relieving the darkness. This scene is from a movie where the police are racing through London in search of Jack The Ripper. The final picture is of a line of policemen in old-fashioned uniforms advancing across a moor in darkness through rising mist with only their flashlight-beams to light their way.

It can get a bit scary inside my mind at times. If these were dreams rather than passing thoughts, they would probably be analysed as meaning an obsession with darkness and getting lost. Maybe the lights penetrating the darkness symbolise a fear of ignorance (or maybe a fear of getting found out). The obvious link is that these pictures all relate to a search of one kind or another. The first one might represent a search for knowledge, the second one is obviously the search for a criminal and the final one a search for clues at the scene of a crime.

Why would the words “search engine” conjure up these dark visions? If you look at the words we associate with search engines, I think the connection will be clear. We talk about “submitting” our websites to search engines. We dont “send” our websites or “apply” to search engines or “register” our websites with search engines. We are submissive and the search engines dominate us.

We adopt this submissive posture and the search engines send their robots to “crawl” over our websites. Doesnt sound very pleasant does it? The future of your website is entirely in the power of these monsters. You have spent time and perhaps some cash getting your website ready for the visit. Your website, the shop window to your home business, has been tweaked and “search engine optimised”, now you can do nothing except hope that your efforts will be rewarded with approval by these invisible inspectors.

Web site owners act as if the search engines are neighbourhood dignitaries: “We must tidy up, the search engines are coming to visit”. An anxious time follows while your website, brushed, polished and optimised to the best of your ability, waits to greet these visitors. The most respected visitor is Googlebot. He causes most anxiety and is renowned for being unpredictable. Webmasters try to analyse the “Googledance” in the hope of making Googlebot’s visit enjoyable. If we can get the mighty Googlebot to dance instead of merely crawling, he might give us a good report, but Googlebot can’t seem to decide what algorithm he prefers. How are you supposed to get his feet tapping? Unfortunately, the search engines are not the most communicative visitors and you only realise they have carried out their examination when something (either good or bad) happens to your protg’s page rank.

The search engines are not like your school teacher who gives you a class test, they are more like the university Board Of Examiners: when you have passed or failed their test, you will never get to know which questions you got right or where your weakness lies. Further improvement will have to be a matter of guesswork but suppose your guess is wrong? You might destroy the very things which met with the search engines approval. Then you hear that the search engines dont agree amongst themselves, so what pleases some of them might lose you points with others. Which ones should you try hardest to impress? Should you turn your website into some sort of private Googledancer and risk offending the rest of the robots? Would it be better to try to please one or two of the larger search engines or a big bunch of the lesser ones? Finally you hear a rumour that the search engines are changing their secret rules anyway but nobody knows what the changes will entail. You despair of ever satisfying the masters of your fate, you feel as if you are stumbling around in the dark. Panic takes you over.

Should you be afraid of search engines?

Anybody in his right mind should be afraid, very afraid.

Search Engine Optimization – The Google Toolbar & Search Engine Optimization

Sunday, August 27th, 2006

The Google Toolbar & Search Engine Optimization

by: Alec Duncan

Like many other useful toolbars out there so is the Google Toolbar. I consider this toolbar a must have for any serious search engine optimizer and anyone who searches the internet on a regular basis. Heres why The Google Toolbar has grown significantly in features since inception. It now features several new useful features but the main focus of this article is on those that aid in search engine optimization. So without further ado heres the Google Toolbar unfolded.

PageRank

Upon installation of the full Google toolbar you will notice a small bar near the center of it that may or may not be partially filled with a green color as displayed in the diagram below.

http://www.lilengine.com/images/googletoolbar/toolbar1.gif

This is the Google PageRank indicator. PageRank is one of Googles ways of rating your website and plays a role in the position of your site in their search results. This value is calculated based on several variables including the PageRank value and the number of sites that link to that page. Sites with a higher page rank tend to have better rankings than other sites if all other things are kept equal. I have personally noticed a significant increase in the search engine placement of our Search Engine Optimization (http://www.lilengine.com) site whenever our Google page rank is increased.

The Google toolbar enable you to, at a glance, view the PageRank of your website as well as your competitors sites. This helps when looking for sites to engage in with link building as more links coming from sites with a higher PageRank than yours help to increase your sites PageRank. It is also said that when looking for site to link to yours that you should aim for sites with a PR 4 or higher. LilEngine personally accepts links from any useful and related resources, links from sites with a PageRank of 4 and above are an added bonus. Contact us for an exchange at info@lilengine.com.

A side note

There are times when the Google Toolbar will display your website as having a PageRank of 0 or even no rank at all. If your site previously had a PR greater than 0 and you notice this, watch it for a while or close your browser and reopen it to check as there are times that this feature seems to be a bit buggy possibly due to updates etc at Google.

Cached Version

When Google spiders your site it records the latest version of your site that it has spidered and this can be viewed using the Google Toolbar by going to the Page Info button and selecting cached version. Your browser must be on the page you would like to see the cached version of at the time you choose to do this.

http://www.lilengine.com/images/googletoolbar/toolbar2.gif

How can this help you with your SEO campaign?

If you have optimized your website in hopes of increasing your search engine results in Google, this will indicate whether or not Google has updated their database with the new version of your page. If the Googlebot visits your site regularly the cached version of your site will be updated more frequently than otherwise.

Backward Links

The Google Toolbar also has a pretty useful feature that displays all the web pages that link to your web page, which Google counts towards your PageRank. This information isnt regularly updated and cant be expected to take between 1 3 months before changes can be seen. Backlinks deal with quality and not quantity. A site with 1000 mediocre backlinks may not have as high a Page Rank as a site with 800 high PR backlinks.

Highlighting

You have the option of adding a highlight feature to your Google Toolbar that highlights all instances of your search term on the web page reached from your search. This can help you see how many times your competitors use specific keywords on their pages and you may modify your SEO campaign accordingly. You may also use this to check your own pages and see if you are or are not using enough of your target keywords on your page for optimum search engine placement. Besides those features listed above there are also some other cool tools on the Google Toolbar such as:

Popup Blocker: This only works in IE 5.5 or later but is a great addition as we all know that there are many sites on the web that bombard you with popups. Some of these even go as far as almost preventing you from going anywhere else as more and more windows keep popping up. Annoyance factor 10/10.

Google Web Search: You can easily search the web using the Google Search Engine via the Google Toolbar by typing in your search terms in the search box area and then clicking enter or clicking the Search Web button on the toolbar.

Translate: Easily translate sites into English that you may be interested in for one reason or another.

Unfortunately there is no version of the Google Toolbar for browsers other than Internet Explorer 5.0 and greater but hopefully they will be adding this in the near future.

There are many more features available with the Google Toolbar. Learn more and download it here, http://toolbar.google.com/.

Test Your Direct Response Marketing Using two Steps

Of all the mistakes a small business owner can make,
possibly none will cost more than failing to test one
aspect against another. In order words, testing one price
against another. One headline against another. One ad
against another.

There is an “A-B” test. That’s the common terminology for
testing your offer, headlines, pricing, ads, or services.
We create two different ads, an A and a B, two different
headlines, and two different mailings to determine which
obtains the greater response or sales or referrals.

The key to an A-B test is to set it up so you can quantify
and measure it properly and track those results with the
goal to zero in on the one or two choices that are
Preferable over the others.

Then you roll out a new untested product or marketing
strategy in this manner, and by mailing to a small test
area, say 500-1,000, you can save yourself in the event of
a failure untold thousands of dollars.

Most of the time you can conduct multiple A-B tests
simultaneously on the same product, ad, headline, price,
etc. before selecting the final strategy. I recommend if
your product or service is conducive to this type of
approach, in other words, creating a modest direct mail
campaign for conducting the A-B test to do it.

Direct mail is the method of choice because it can be put
together relatively quickly and inexpensively.

The prospects to whom you direct your mailing to in a
one-step approach will either respond or not respond with a
purchase or inquiry. No intermediate steps, calls or
visits. That way it involves a fairly standard set of steps
or procedures to take.

Your two other major goals should be in using A-B tests to
verify what people will actually buy and determine whether
you are able to reach these individuals with the marketing
campaign that you intend to launch so that they will buy
from you.

You must be able to think of the purpose of an A -B test as
a way to uncover the best and most profitable mix of
products, services, price incentives and guarantees that
will encourage your prospects to buy.

A word of caution: many organizations try to determine this
information by sending out surveys. Sometimes this works
and sometimes it doesn’t. There are statistics that show
that people rate the Bible as the highest read book and the
National Inquirer as the least read. When you look at
purchase statistics, they show that more people read the
Inquirer in one week than all other books or pamphlets.

You don’t necessarily want to determine. who will buy
things just by a survey. You want them to vote with their
dollars.

Search Engine Marketing Secrets – Search Engine Optimization :: The Basics and Why Websites Need It

Friday, August 25th, 2006

We all know that the most targeted traffic we can get for our websites is from search engines. If you have a little patience and time to set websites the right way you can have a great source of excellent traffic and, best of all, you get it for free.

I will outline first in this article the basics that you have to know to get started with the optimization the right way and, if you read it carefully, you will find out how to be one step ahead the majority.

If you want to have a complete optimized site you have to take care of both on-site and off-site optimization. I will first outline the basics of on-site optimization.

Title Of The Page
The title of the page is one of the most important elements of on-site optimization. Your title must contain your main keyphrase of the page, also make sure that the title describes exactly what the page is about.

Meta Description Tag
The meta description tag usually consists of 160 to 180 characters including spaces. You have to make sure that it describes what the page is about and, because it will appear as a description of your page in serps, you have to write it in a way to make the readers interested in your site. But also don’t forget to include the main keyphrases in it.

Meta Keywords Tag
For some meta enabled search engines, the meta keywords tag used to be one of the most important factor after title and description. In the meta description tag include the keywords and keyphrases from your title, description and some other important keywords but try not to exceed 20 words.

Heading Tag
Each page should contain at least one heading tag. You have to place it at the top of the page and should contain your primary keywords/keyphrases. Make sure that all the heading tags are relevant to the content of the page.

Alt Tag
When you place your cursor over an image a text will popup. This text is the alt text. Try not to stuff keywords or keyphrases in it. Make sure it will describe the image and will include your main keywords/keyphrases.

Content Of The Page
Along with the title, the content weights heavily for all major search engines. You will have to write it to grab users attention and include all your keywords and keyphrases in it in a balanced way. A good thing you can do for your site is to add at least a new page each week to give users a reason to visit your site again.

If you will build all your pages accordingly to all this basic tips, from the off-site optimization point of view, your pages will be optimized the way they should.

Although some engines still pay attention to the on-site optimization, what you need to do to achieve high rankings is a great link building campaign, also known as off-site optimization.

We all know the importance of inbound links for high rankings, but search engines algorithms evolved so much that it’s not only important the number of links. Algorithms will take in consideration many other factors such as if the link your site receive it’s an one way link or reciprocal link.

Almost all webmasters have only campaigns to build as many reciprocal links, which is wrong, because search engines recognizes them and gives them very little importance.

If you want to be one big step ahead of your competition you have to build as many one way links as you can. One way links have a very big impact on rankings. The algos will analyze the page from which you receive the link too. The best links you can create are from pages that are themselves optimized for your keywords/keyphrases.

The best and easy way to do this is writing and submitting optimized topical articles to articles banks over the Internet. Along with your article, you will include a short bio about yourself where you can place your website URL.

There are many places, like goarticles.com , where you can submit your articles in order to create many one way links with only one article. If you will write and submit one article per week you will have a great link building campaign for your site.

Because 42% to 86% of websites are found through search engines and there are over 300 million searches carried out per day, every day your website needs a good search engine optimization. If you will apply all the things I’ve outlined in this article, you just can’t fail.
